LSST Focalplane Sensors

ITL was recently selected to produce “First Article” sensors for the Large Synoptic Survey Telescope. The sensors will be the Semiconductor Technology Associates, Inc. STA3800C Charge-Coupled Devices (CCDs) which will be backside processed, custom-packaged, and characterized by ITL.

ITL completed delivery of the “First Article” LSST STA3800 CCD sensors for the LSST project. These 4k x 4k 10 micron pixel sensors have 16 video channels each and approximately five electrons read noise with a two second readout time. They have a peak quantum efficiency over 95% and are mechanically flat to less than 5 microns.
